What is ACCA?

The ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is one of the largest and fastest growing international accountancy bodies. It is recognised and respected in 170 countries and currently has over 500 000 members and students.

The ACCA Qualification is designed to provide the accounting knowledge, skills and professional values which will deliver finance professionals who are capable of building successful careers across all sectors, whether they are working in the public or private sectors, practising in accounting firms, or pursuing a career in business.

The ACCA Qualification embeds the global accounting education standards set by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). There is a strong focus on professional values, ethics, and governance. These skills are essential as the profession moves towards strengthened codes of conduct, regulation, and legislation with an increasing focus on professionalism and ethics in accounting. These are examined at the highest level in the ACCA Qualification and are a core element of your practical experience requirements.

ACCA Eligibility Criteria

Two A-levels and three GCSE’s in five separate subjects including English and Maths 

FA/FSC with 45% marks and under  21 years of age

FA/FSC with 45% marks and 21 years of age or over

BA/BSC/B.COM with 2nd div or 2.5 GP

You can join first level of ACCA (knowledge model)

You should complete the CAT qualification first and then move on to the second level(skills module) of your ACCA accounting qualification.

You can join the ACCA qualification under the Mature Student entry route. This means that you can start with the Knowledge module( first level) of ACCA.

CAT qualification Leading to ACCA

 
 

The CAT (Chartered Accounting Technician) qualification is offered by the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA). The ACCA is the worlds largest international accounting body with in excess of 100,000 members.

 

The CAT qualification is split into 10 Examination Papers.

In order to qualify as a Certified Accounting Technician, students must complete 9 of the examination papers and a Technician Training Record (TTR).

 

The ACCA Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification is internationally recognized and takes approximately one year to complete.

 

Why CAT

 

CAT qualification provides you the gateway to ACCA, the world wide accepted professional accounting qualification. There are many opportunities for career progression. In many small to medium-sized companies, accounting technicians are the only trained financial staff, and they have major responsibilities.

 

CAT qualified may have to work with senior managers, reporting on how the business is performing and suggesting ways to improve profitability and performance. Some accounting technicians also become self-employed, providing book-keeping and advisory support to smaller organizations.

 

 

Career prospects

There is a growing demand for accounting technicians in all areas, including accounting practice, commerce and industry, and the public sector. There are good career opportunities, in all parts of the various industries such as commercial companies, accountancy practices, local and central government, charities and voluntary organizations.
